Day 8: Rotterdam

Saturday, May 13, 2017

From our mooring in Ghent, we traveled to Rotterdam, where we would take a coach to visit Keykenhof, the world-famous spring flower gardens.

Rotterdam Route

TulipsFor our day docked in Rotterdam, the excursions were windmills or tulips. I had visited the gardens of Keukenhof on a trip to Amsterdam in the spring of 2000. (Keukenhof translates to “kitchen garden,” so to say “Keukenhof gardens” is redundant.) For someone who loves spring flowers, a walk through Keukenhof is an absolute delight. I saw more tulips and in greater variety than ever before. It was one of my must-see-again memories of that trip.

I chose the tulip excursion, and my pals said they’d go along.

In the morning, we just relaxed and started our packing. After lunch, we boarded a coach for the hour-long drive to Keukenhof. We walked around with our guide for forty-five minutes or so, then had time on our own to explore. There was one short rain shower, but otherwise lovely weather. An absolutely beautiful day to revel in the beauty of thousands of flowers.

(The photos below tell you more than I can say with words. Enjoy!)

In the late afternoon, we rode back to the ship for drinks and our final dinner on board, followed by more music and camaraderie in the lounge, then final packing. Our bags had to be outside our doors before 7:45 in the morning.

How did the week pass so quickly?
